Henry Atkin 12 Bore Sidelock Ejector with 30” Barrels and Game Scene Engraving by M. Bublik – No. 1 of a Pair
Description: Handsome Henry Atkin 12 bore sidelock ejector with 30” nitro steel barrels and well executed game scene engraving by M. Bublik. Right lockplate depicts partridges in flight, the left has a pheasant in cover, and the bottom a pointer. Atkin no. 433 was made in the mid-1890’s. Lots of residual case coloring and highly figured European walnut stock and forearm. Presented in its canvas and leather case with maker’s label and accessories including pewter oil bottle, Henry Atkin snap caps, rosewood cleaning rod and tool heads. Easy to carry for a day afield at 6lb 7oz. The 30” nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” barrels. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding low recoiling 2-1/2” shotshells are available in the US from ARMUSA, Game Bore, and RST Shells. The bores are shiny and the bluing is in good condition but does show some thinning near the breech end. They are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib which is inscribed “Henry Atkin (From Purdey’s) 2 Jermyn Street Haymarket London”. The right barrel is bored 0.736 with a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022. The left barrel is bored 0.735 and has a constriction of 0.018 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.021. The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured European walnut with a recent handrubbed oil finish. The checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 15-1/8” by 1-3/8” by 1-5/8”. Slightly cast off for the righthand shooter. A great handling game gun from one of the top London gunmakers. Beautiful engraving by M. Bublik and lots of residual case coloring. *** Come and see this great double and other fine shotguns at the MacNab booth at the Southern Side-by-Side Championship & Exhibition on April 24th – 27th at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, NC. *** *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
