The Beretta SO4 is one of the finest sidelock over/under shotguns ever produced by Beretta and represents the company’s entry into the world of true best-quality competition and sporting guns. Hand-built in Italy with exceptional attention to detail, the SO-series shotguns earned a reputation for combining world-class mechanical reliability with refined Italian craftsmanship. This particular example stands out further with its striking custom nitre blue finish and deluxe woodwork, giving the gun a uniquely elegant and highly distinctive appearance.
Produced in 1977, this SO4 is chambered in 12 gauge with 2.75" chambers and fitted with 30" barrels choked Improved Modified (.025") and Full (.039"), making it ideally suited for long-range sporting clays, live bird shooting, or driven game applications. Weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces, the gun balances substantial target-gun stability with the lively feel expected of a premium Beretta sidelock. The matted vent rib with red fiber optic front bead provides a modern and highly visible sight picture.
The gun is built on a true sidelock action and features a single non-selective trigger, ejectors, and non-automatic safety. Beretta’s SO-series actions are renowned for their durability, excellent trigger pulls, and precise lockwork, and this example remains mechanically excellent throughout.
Condition is described as excellent overall, showing only faint wear typical of careful use. The bores are clear, the trigger is crisp, and the action remains smooth and locks up tight.
The appearance of this SO4 is especially striking. The receiver has been finished in a vivid fire-blued nitre finish accented by tasteful border engraving and scroll motifs. The gold-washed trigger and sidelock pins provide elegant contrast against the deep blue receiver. The barrels are crafted from Boehler Antinit steel and retain their rich blued finish.
The shotgun is stocked with beautifully figured deluxe walnut and configured with a high-comb stock, right-handed palm swell, and a target-style forend, giving the gun a more competition-oriented feel while retaining classic SO-series refinement. Fine diamond-pattern checkering remains sharp throughout the pistol grip and forend. Additional upscale details include a horn pistol grip cap and traditional orange recoil pad.
