Beretta's SO series is the company's perennial most-popular, premium, O/U line. This early-edition SO5 is a hand-made true side lock with high cross-bolt locking system, which results in a particularly slim receiver with a simple and reliable action. The light high-tensile barrels contribute to the gun's exceptional handling. Beretta still catalogs an SO5 in 3 competition variants, but the EELL, no longer cataloged, takes the SO5 to a higher plane. Each EELL was built to customer specifications, highly embellished, and was considered in its day one of Beretta's top-of-the-line super-premium custom guns. This specimen has been further professionally enhanced to take high-end Briley removable chokes. Weighing in at a svelte 7.25 lbs, this Italian SO5 is a true side-lock designed from the ground up to optimize balance and swing. Expertly finished in Beretta's rich blue-black except at the jeweled monobloc, the 12g 28” barrels have 2 ¾” chambers and are made from high-strength but light Boehler/Antinit steel. The top rib is ventilated, patterned, and mounts a silver front bead. The forged nickel-chome-moly steel receiver sports a coin-silver finish, exquisitely engraved with a dense floral pattern over a finely hatched background. Engraving covers all surfaces, including the tangs, trigger guard, and action lever. The lever itself is blue, filigreed openwork inlaid with a gold crown. The single-selective trigger is gold plated. The tang safety with gold-inlay indicator is automatic, and the gun is fitted with ejectors. The wood is top quality, matched, beautifully figured, select European walnut, enhanced by the lustrous hand-rubbed finish. The stock features a straight wrist with a gold disk inlay, capped by a deluxe brown leather-textured recoil pad ¾” thick. The checkering is well executed on the grip and fore end. The original fixed chokes (F/M), were upgraded to the thin-wall Briley Ser. 26 lead-only flush-fit system (6 included--Briley: IM, FULL, IC, M; VX: SK 1 [2 ea]). The hard case is a Beretta ABS combo (#C61324). Beretta built this SO-5 in Italy as a bespoke custom gun for a discriminating shooter!
Part of an estate liquidation, this SO5 EELL (s/n 37xxx) is in NRA (mod) Excellent condition, clean and well lubricated. Estimated original finish: Receiver 98%; Barrel 96%, Overall about 98%. Except for light wear in the blue on the edges of the thumb lever, the receiver is 100%. Screws are timed but show some evidence of slot wear. Barrel finish above wood is an unmarred rich satin blue-black although the blue on the sharp edges of the vent rib has thinned, and there is a small scratch in the spacer between the barrels midway down the right side. Under the fore-end wood there is a trace of finish wear at the contact points typical of O/U's, but this is remarkably light due to apparent low use and highly precise construction. Chambers and bores are in mirror-bright Excellent condition. Functionally, the gun is extremely tight, and it breaks down and comes together smoothly. Ejectors, triggers, and other controls work properly. The wood finish still shows its original luster although several light handling scuffs and scratches are visible in oblique light both on the stock and fore end. Most obvious is dent in the checkering on the left side of the fore end involving 3-4 facets. Otherwise checkering is intact. The butt cuff and recoil pad are in Good condition, edges of the latter showing some wear at the toe & heel. Chokes are in Excellent condition, and the case is As New. Expertly finished in Beretta's rich blue-black except at the jeweled monobloc, the 12g 28” barrels have 2 ¾” chambers and are made from high-strength but light Boehler/Antinit steel. The top rib is ventilated, patterned, and mounts a silver front bead. The forged nickel-chome-moly steel receiver sports a coin-silver finish, exquisitely engraved with a dense floral pattern over a finely hatched background. Engraving covers all surfaces, including the tangs, trigger guard, and action lever. The lever itself is blue, filigreed openwork inlaid with a gold crown. The single-selective trigger is gold plated. The tang safety with gold-inlay indicator is automatic, and the gun is fitted with ejectors. The wood is top quality, matched, beautifully figured, select European walnut, enhanced by the lustrous hand-rubbed finish. The stock features a straight wrist with a gold disk inlay, capped by a deluxe brown leather-textured recoil pad ¾” thick. The checkering is well executed on the grip and fore end. The original fixed chokes (F/M), were upgraded to the thin-wall Briley Ser. 26 lead-only flush-fit system (6 included--Briley: IM, FULL, IC, M; VX: SK 1 [2 ea]). The hard case is a Beretta ABS combo (#C61324). Beretta built this SO-5 in Italy as a bespoke custom gun for a discriminating shooter!
Part of an estate liquidation, this SO5 EELL (s/n 37xxx) is in NRA (mod) Excellent condition, clean and well lubricated. Estimated original finish: Receiver 98%; Barrel 96%, Overall about 98%. Except for light wear in the blue on the edges of the thumb lever, the receiver is 100%. Screws are timed but show some evidence of slot wear. Barrel finish above wood is an unmarred rich satin blue-black although the blue on the sharp edges of the vent rib has thinned, and there is a small scratch in the spacer between the barrels midway down the right side. Under the fore-end wood there is a trace of finish wear at the contact points typical of O/U's, but this is remarkably light due to apparent low use and highly precise construction. Chambers and bores are in mirror-bright Excellent condition. Functionally, the gun is extremely tight, and it breaks down and comes together smoothly. Ejectors, triggers, and other controls work properly. The wood finish still shows its original luster although several light handling scuffs and scratches are visible in oblique light both on the stock and fore end. Most obvious is dent in the checkering on the left side of the fore end involving 3-4 facets. Otherwise checkering is intact. The butt cuff and recoil pad are in Good condition, edges of the latter showing some wear at the toe & heel. Chokes are in Excellent condition, and the case is As New. You'll have a tough time finding an SO5 EELL in this kind of condition elsewhere, so act fast!
