Beretta's SO9 was the company's top-of-the-line sidelock through 2003. Before the arrival of the SO10, you could not buy a finer O/U from Beretta, which is the same as saying, “anywhere”. The SO9's inherently reliable pin-mounted sidelock design has a unique, high, dual-bolt locking system located above & aligned with the top bore axis, producing an ultra slim receiver. The streamlined receiver has more than enough strength to handle firing stress, and leads to exceptional balance and handling. Each SO9, sized appropriately for gauge, was built to customer specifications, and highly embellished by master engravers. And this specimen is a masterpiece of SO9 art. Covered with high-relief, gold-inlaid game scenes on a dense floral background by Beretta's late master engraver, A. Galeazzi, and set in premium wood, the gun is a true work of art. Don't miss your chance to pick up this classic ornate and high-performing gun from one of the world's premier manufacturers!
Weighing only 6.2 lbs, this Italian-built SO9 is a true side-lock crafted from the ground up for both elegance and performance. Expertly finished in Beretta's rich blue-black except at the jeweled monobloc, both 20g 28” barrel sets are made from high-strength but light Boehler/Antinit steel and have 2 ¾” chambers. The top ribs are patterned with white front and mid beads. The receiver sports a coin-silver finish, exquisitely engraved by Galeazzi (attribution paperwork included). Angelo Galeazzi (1931-2012) is considered by many to be the finest master engraver of his day, renowned for his life-like detail and delicate touch. His art covers all receiver surfaces, including tangs and controls. Gold-inlaid, high-relief game scenes and a detailed portrait of the commissioning owner's favorite black lab adorn the sides and bottom. The single trigger is mechanical, the gun is fitted with ejectors, and the gold-inlaid tang safety is auto. The wood is top quality, beautifully figured, select European walnut, enhanced by the lustrous hand-rubbed finish. The stock features a straight wrist ending in a beautifully checkered, natural-wood shoulder plate. Checkering is of similar quality on the grip and fore end. Chokes are fixed M/IC & SK/SK. The hard case is a Beretta leather-covered 2-barrel-set unit with accessories and key. Beretta built this SO9 in Italy as a bespoke custom gun for a discriminating sportsman!
Part of an estate liquidation, this SO9 (s/n AAAxxxB) is in NRA (mod) Excellent condition, estimated overall finish 99+%. Although previously shot, it is clean and well lubricated. The receiver is essentially100%. Screws are timed with no slot wear. Barrel finish is about 99% on both sets. Above wood finish is essentially 100%--a rich satin blue-black. Under the fore-end there is a trace of finish wear at the contact points typical of O/U's, but this is remarkably light due to careful use and precise construction. Chambers and bores are mirror-bright Excellent. Functionally, the gun is extremely tight and the action is still stiff. Evidently shot little, it can probably use some breaking in. Ejectors, triggers, and safety work properly. The wood finish retains all its original luster with no blemishes noted. In the interests of full disclosure paperwork for the piece (included) shows that the original owner had Beretta's NY Gallery refinish the wood and repair the lower firing pin in 2012 although it is impossible to tell by looking at the gun. The case and accessories appear As-New.
