The Beretta Vittoria is one of the finest hammer side-by-side shotguns ever produced by the legendary Italian maker. Combining traditional nineteenth-century styling with modern twentieth-century engineering, the Vittoria was built to the exceptionally high standards that have made Beretta one of the world's oldest and most respected firearms manufacturers. Its robust locking system, elegant proportions, and refined craftsmanship make it highly sought after by collectors and sportsmen alike.
This example is chambered in the desirable 16 gauge with original 70mm (2.75") chambers and features 28-inch monobloc barrels choked Full (.037") and Full (.038"). Weighing just 6 pounds 3 ounces, it is a lively, well-balanced game gun that carries beautifully in the field. The barrels are fitted with a matted flat tapering rib and traditional gold front bead.
Built on a deluxe sidelock hammer action, the Vittoria features an exceptionally strong four-point locking system consisting of double underlugs, a Greener cross-bolt, an additional quad fastener, and barrel side-clips, along with double triggers, a top lever, and extractor. Mechanically, the shotgun remains in excellent overall condition. The bores are clear, the triggers are crisp, the hammers are strong, and the action is smooth and locks up tightly.
The case color hardened action is tastefully engraved with light scrollwork and game scenes positioned ahead of each hammer. The right side depicts a sporting dog, while the left side features a woodcock, an appropriate tribute to the gun's intended purpose as a fine upland game gun. The underside of the action is engraved with scrollwork and marked "MONOBLOC BERETTA - BRESCIA." The blued monobloc barrels remain in excellent condition.
The shotgun is stocked with attractive walnut featuring a classic Woodward-style pistol grip and matching splinter forend. Fine diamond-point checkering remains sharp throughout. Additional details include a blank gold initial shield inlaid near the heel of the stock and the original grooved steel Beretta buttplate bearing the Beretta logo.
Please refer to the photographs for a detailed view of the overall condition.
Elegant, mechanically sophisticated, and chambered in the highly desirable 16 gauge, this Beretta Vittoria is a superb example of Italian gunmaking. With its original 70mm chambers, robust four-point locking system, and beautiful case-colored sidelock action, it represents a rare opportunity to own one of Beretta's finest traditional hammer guns.
