Offered for sale today is an extraordinary Beretta Model 687EL Gold Pigeon II built in 2007.  What makes it “extraordinary”?  We could point out that it retains 99% factory finish on all wood and metal even though it is 16 years old.  We could also note that she only weighs 6 1/4lbs., noticeably lighter than most Beretta guns of this model.  But really, it is obvious that on this gun IT IS THE EXHIBITION TURKISH WALNUT WITH DEEP, RICH, DARK COLORED MARBLE CAKE FIGURE, HAND-RUBBED OIL FINISH, AND PERFECT CHECKERING WITH NOT A FIELD MARK ON THE WOOD.  We gunners all love gorgeous wood and are happy to pay a bit extra to get it.  The deeply chiseled game scene engraving on the sideplates combine with this fantastic wood to make a very elegant and expensive looking Beretta over/under.  Of course, the gun has work to do in the field and on the clays course, so it needs to have superior function as well.  As noted from the Beretta :
This shotgun will shine in any hunting situation. This is because it is built on a receiver that is equally strong and low-profile. The 687 action has two conical locking lugs at mid-height, meaning that it will always lock up strongly and positively while not requiring the extra bulk and weight for a top locking lever. This further means that when you bring it up to the shoulder, the vertical distance between your eye and your supporting hand is minimized: this shotgun will follow your sight easily and instinctively. And in spite of its beauty, the 687 action is noted for its strength, so this is a shotgun that you can confidently pass down to the next generation of hunters.
