Boss Sidelock 12GA Beautiful Condition
Description: I have for sale a lovely Boss 12 gauge side-by-side which was built around 1901 and has a number of wonderful features and one which is in excellent condition. There is always great debate over which of the English gun makers is best, and I won't argue the point, but I think all will agree Boss is certainly in the top tier with Purdey and Holland and Holland. I think if you look at this particular gun you will agree it has some of the finest rose and scroll engraving of any gun and wood that is special in every way. With every English gun the first thing to consider is the condition of the barrels. Almost everything can be repaired except the barrels. On this particular gun a new set of barrels were built for it in 2000 by Phillip Turner, a barreler for Purdey and Barrel shop foreman for Holland & Holland. So with this gun you are getting engraving from the best era, and barrels that haven't been touched and with the best modern metals. The barrels measure the following; length 28 inches, Rt. bore .726, Left bore .726, Rt choke .006, Left choke .016, minimum barrel wall thickness Rt .035, Left .033, chambers 2 3/4 inches. The barrels of course have selective ejectors. So as you can see you are getting a perfect set of barrels on this gun with what I feel may be the perfect chokes for upland birds. Weight of the gun is 6 pounds 6 ounces and it balances 1/4 inch ahead of the hinge pin. Stock dimensions are 1 5/8 X 2 5/16 X 14 7/8 over a very nicely done leather pad. Stock is cast off 1/4 inch for the right hand shooter. Wood as you can see is spectacular and in wonderful shape with only light handling marks. Case coloring is original and very nice. Note that the gun has the Patented Boss Single Trigger. Price of the gun is $21000 and if you consider the price of having a new set of barrels made you I think you will agree this is an excellent price on a gun of this quality. Shipping will be $100 additional to cover special packaging and insurance. As always there is a three day none firing inspection period with buyer paying shipping charges if returned.
