The coin finished action is engraved in the Grade lV pre-Diana Grade 1960’s style in deep relief with oak leaves and acorns as counterpoint to game scenes, with fox bringing duck back to den on left; setter and pointer with flushing and retrieved pheasants on right. Bottom of action portrays a pair of pigeons; with pair of pheasants, one perched on branch, on trigger guard bow.
This Grade lV Superposed is the work of Browning master engraver Felix Funken whose signature appears at bottom rear of BOTH sides of the finely engraved action.
This fine Superposed was used and shot extensively by the former owners father. The gun sat forgotten for many years stored in a closet and remained unused. The stock had been shortened and mechanically needed replacement of various internal components. Accordingly ,the gun was sold to a collector who embarked on a project to bring the gun back to both outward and mechanical excellence. An expert gunsmith repaired / replaced substantially all internal components (from original Superposed shotguns). The barrels which remain clean and shiny with no pitting were re-blued. The stock was replaced (fore end is original to the gun) and all stock work was performed by ‘Arts Gun Shop’, the reknowned Browning factory repair center. Both the stock and fore end bear the glossy finish as original to the gun and contain no noticeable handling marks.
The stock and for end feature dark, nicely streaked European walnut, and the sought after round knob, long tang (RKLT) grip. The stock measures 14-3/4″ over a thin ‘KickEez” rubber pad. Theinal Browning composition buttplate.is included with the gun and can be easily reinstalled. The stock features Point pattern checkering with beaded and mullered borders is at grip, and on the matching field type fore end. Additional stock measurements are Drop at Comb 1 5/8" and Drop at Heel 2". The Barrels per the Browning Choke Symbols are choked top - Full and bottom – Modified.
The gun Weighs approximately 7 lbs. 4 oz. A leather Browning case (not original to the gun) and contains a Browning instruction booklet.
