Browning Midas 28 Gauge/.410 SET, 1973, AS NEW, CASED, DOCUMENTED, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Browning, Year 1972, 28ga/.410ga, 28=6lbs 6oz, .410=6lbs 7oz, Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 017 F72 The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs. Produced in plain-jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when traditional production stopped. The Midas Grade was the highest grade of engraving and wood offered for the regular production models, and was cut with deep relief style acanthus scroll, game scene vignettes with large, raised gold inlays outlined in fine gold wire. The trigger guard and a 1 ½” section of the breech end of the barrels also received the deep relief scroll work. The wood was exceptionally figured high-grade walnut with fancy checkering that wrapped over the top of the wrist, with spear points and flourishes on the borders. The Midas Grade is truly an exceptional work of art. This particular gun, sn017 F72 made in 1972 (after the salt years debacle, no salt issues) was produced as a 28ga. and the accompanying Browning factory letter tells us that the gun was ordered with a second set of .410 bore barrels and ordered with “outstanding Midas Grade wood with a great deal of configuration” The factory did not disappoint, as the wood on this gun is awesome. This fine Midas small bore set is in mint condition and comes in the original Browning Airway style case, which is in excellent condition and includes the instruction booklet, keys, and hanging tags. The wood has 14 ¼” LOP to the factory buttplate. The Both barrel sets are 26 ½” and factory choked IC/M. The engraving is signed by Claude Baerten and flawlessly executed. The gun has 99% plus of the factory finish remaining and there are no marks in the wood or metal. THIS IS A RARE AND DESIRABLE BROWNING SUPERPOSED. THE TOTAL PRODUCTION OF ALL BROWNING SUPERPOSED GUNS IN ALL GRADES IN 28GA. WAS ONLY 3300 GUNS, WITH ONLY 119 Midas Grade GUNS PRODUCED IN 28GA. AND 147 Midas Grade IN .410 BORE. This is one of the finest examples you will ever encounter and we are offering the set at a very reasonable price. Thanks for looking!
