Eventually, the Auto 5 was built under license by Remington as the Model 11. Browning considered the Auto 5 his best design, and it was produced continuously for nearly one hundred years. This Browning was produced at an interesting point in time, during which FN’s serial number system was altered. From 1958 till early 1968, Browning Auto-5’s used the last digit of the year, a letter code indicating the model, and the remaining digits in the serial number.
