Bluing is in very good condition The FN Browning A5, or Auto-5, is an iconic semi-automatic shotgun known for its distinctive "humpback" receiver, designed by John Moses Browning in the late 1890s. It was the first successful mass-produced semi-automatic shotgun and remained in production for nearly a century until 1998. History and Production Design and Patent: John Browning patented the design in 1900 after American manufacturers like Winchester and Remington initially declined his offer. FN Production: Production began in 1902 with the Belgian firm Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Herstal, Belgium, which manufactured the shotgun for decades. Licensees: During various times, especially around the World Wars, the design was licensed to other companies, including Remington (producing the Remington Model 11) and Savage Arms. End of Original Production: The last original Auto-5 was produced in 1998, with a "Final Tribute" version made in 1999. Modern Reintroduction: In 2012, Browning introduced a new A5 model that, while maintaining the "humpback" aesthetic, uses a modern inertia-driven "Kinematic Drive" system and shares no parts with the original long-recoil design. Key Features of the Original Auto-5 Action: It uses a long-recoil operated semi-automatic action, where the barrel and bolt recoil together initially upon firing. Capacity: The name "Auto-5" refers to its capacity of five rounds: four in the magazine and one in the chamber. Design: The famous "humpback" receiver design provides a longer sight radius and aids in natural sight alignment. Gauges: It was available in 12, 16, and 20 gauge, with the "Light Twelve" and "Sweet Sixteen" variants being particularly popular. Durability: Known for its reliability and robust design, the Auto-5 saw military service from World War I through the Vietnam War. 12 Gauge Barrels: 28 inches Stock Dimensions: 14¼" length of pull Weight: 8.15 lbs Item Location: Avon, OH Price: $729.99 Contact Seller |
