Belgian-made Browning Model 27 12-guage "Chasse" (Game/Hunt), 30" barrels UNFIRED! in orig. box
Description: Belgian Browning Superposed 12-gauage O/U shotgun 27-1/2" barrels, full/modified, new in box (box shows wear from years of moving & storage). History: This gun was manufactured by Browning in Belgium for U.S. sale (evidenced by the Browning Arms Company, Morgan, Utah & Montreal P.O." stamped above "Made in Belgium" on the barrel). It was an interim model, among the last made in Belgium but incorporating some of the improvements and design changes made for the Citori model, which were soon to be, or were currently being, manufactured in Japan. There is much confusion about the few of these "L13..." model 27 firearms that have surfaced. There is a great deal of information on the Browning Model B-27 (of which some 10,000 were produced), but nowhere on this firearm, its box, or the literature does the designation “B” appear. Both the box and the literature included state “Browning 27”. It is possible that B-27 is a common reference for the Browning 27, or perhaps this was a limited-production model appearing before or after the B-27. If the serial number were 213PZ03469, Browning numbering from 1976-1986 identifies it as "12-gauge, 1981, Serial number 03469". However, as the lead figure is undoubtedly an L, the serial number does not conform to any available information on Browning gun numbering; except a crossover with the numbering of one Citori model. "L13" is the designation for the Citori 802ES Sporter (which is NOT made in Belgium, and this firearm obviously IS). The Browning site states the following, concerning its serial number reference library: "While every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided on serial numbers and dates of manufacture are accurate, records on early production models such as the Auto-5 and Superposed shotguns were not included due to the complexity of numbers, models and grades offered. Also, there have been unique limited-edition models that did not follow our regular serial number configurations and they are not included in this listing." The other interesting anomily is that the right side of the barrel bears the stamp "PATENT PENDING" above the designation "Special Steel 12-guage Shells - 2-3/4"". This would suggest that, rather than inclusion in an production of 10,000 Model 27 firearms, this model incorporates some new and improved modification(s) that were not as yet granted patents in 1981. The gun was a gift to my father (who was a physician) from his partner-in-practice as a companion piece to his beloved Belgian Lightning 20-guage. However, the 12-guage proved to be too heavy for him to carry in the field and he never found a use for it.
