Browning 20 Gauge Superposed 2-3/4 & 3
Description:
The Browning Superposed shotguns are hand-fitted that were made by some of the best craftsman in Europe to Browning's high standard of excellence. This fine Grade One Superposed Lightning in 20ga. has a serial number of 30987 V4 being built in 1964. It has the quick and somewhat open Mod/IC chokes with 26-1/2" barrels making it a much more desirable gun than a similar gun with Skeet chokes which present a much wider, less dense pattern or a gun with Full/Mod chokes that are too tight for many uses. This Browning has the most desirable long tang and round knob, which guns built before 1967 possess. It weighs 6lb. 4oz. and is all factory original and still retains 99% overall condition. The wood retains the original finish with only the most minor light handling marks. The original owner is a big time Browning collector and he has never hunted with this gun and he has only shot it occasionaly. It still has the original registration card in the gold pouch. The engraving was done by hand by some of the best engravers in the world. This Grade One came with nicely figured walnut stocks. Guns built after 1967 and prior to 1974 had the possibility of salt contamination due to the manner which Browning tried to accelerate their wood curing process. You should avoid guns with short tangs and/or square knob pistol grips for this reason. The early guns, like this one, are highly desirable and wonderfully built to last. This is a great upland gun that is nicely balanced and at 6 1/4lbs., light enough to carry all day afield and hike the big mountains out west. With the factory 3” chambers you can even use heavy magnum loads. The value of these early Superposed guns continues to climb, as it should.
