Browning Superposed 12 ga. Grade IV "Foxes and Dogs" Funken engraved, restocked
Description:
Very rare Browning Grade IV Superposed 12 ga. which has been factory engraved by Felix Funken, one of Browning's finest and most coveted engravers, with his signature clearly struck on both side panels. It has been skillfully executed in an elaborate "Foxes & Dogs" motif.
S/N 33465 Belgium made in 1953. All internal components have matching S/Ns.
98-99% original bluing with only a couple of tiny freckles on the lower barrel blue.
99% Varnish. The buttstock has been replaced with a later factory version of higher gloss finish. The forearm is original, with its finish presumably adjusted to match the replacement buttstock.
Both are nice, dark wood with some figure and superb fine line checkering.
Desirable round knob, long tang configuration (RKLT).
30" special steel barrels are choked Improved Modified and Full, wearing a matted ventilated rib with white Bradley front bead and small white mid bead. 2 3/4" chambers.
Single select, gold plated trigger. The gold plating shows notable wear. Automatic ejectors.
14" LOP to edge of buttplate, with approximately 1 9/16" DAC, 2 1/2" DAH.
Mirror bores and tight mechanics with the lever falling well right of center.
An overall attractive and very hard to find Browning Grade IV.
