Browning Superposed - 1955, LTRK, SOLID RIB, 20 GAUGE, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Browning, Year 1955, 20 Gauge, 6lbs. 2oz. Chokes SK/SK, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 3/8", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 7778 In the early decades of the twentieth century John Browning started to design something not available to American shooters, a high-quality, affordable over/under shotgun, sadly this was to be his last design, his final legacy to the gun world- The Superposed.. As you compare this gun to others, keep in mind that the most desirable Superposed guns are the long tang, round knob guns built before 1966. This Superposed, sn7778 with Grade 1 engraving style was manufactured in 1955 before the change to the short tang trigger guard and the beginning of the “salt-wood debacle”. Guns built after 1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because of the way Browning cured their wood. Not all guns were affected, but the marketplace still has an aversion to the later guns with short tangs built from 1967 to about 1971. Production of the Browning Superposed was undertaken in Belgium, from 1931 through 1977 when traditional craftsmanship style production ended. This gun bears factory original finishes and in 99% condition with only a few light handling marks in the hand rubbed factory varnish. The gun is choked SK/SK and has the very desirable solid rib on its 26 ½” barrels. The gun weighs a svelte 6lb 2oz. Length of pull is 14 1/4”, the triggers break at 4 and 4.25 lbs. This is a great lightweight upland gun for the season that is upon us that will work equally well at the club breaking clays. This is a gun that will provide years of flawless performance for the new owner. A classic Belgium Superposed with all the right attributes. Thanks for looking!
