The Browning Superposed was designed by John Moses Browning who invented some of the most famous firearms in history including the M1911, the M1917/1919 .30-cal MG, the M2 .50-cal HMG, the M1887/1897/1912 shotguns, the M1886/1892/1894 lever action rifles, the Hi Power pistol, the M1918 BAR, and the Auto-5 shotgun. Mr. Browning was such a prolific inventor that many of his designs were used as the basis for guns produced in other countries all over the world. For example, most of the Japanese Army Air Force’s WW2 fighter planes used machine guns and cannons that were essentially a scaled up M2. Some of Mr. Browning’s lesser known firearms include the FN Models 1900, 1903, 1910, and 1922, the Colt M1900/1902/1905/1907/1909/1910 (all forerunners of the M1911), the Remington Model 8 rifle, the Colt M1903 Hammerless, the Browning Baby and Colt M1908 .25 pocket pistols, and of all things, even the US Army’s M1A2 37mm anti-aircraft gun. The Superposed Lightning shown here is in extremely good condition. It was built in Belgium at the FN factory in 1967 for Abercrombie and Fitch – a famous outdoor retailer that started business back in 1892. It is likely that this Lightning has seen very little use if any. It comes with two sets of barrels, one 28 inches in length and the other 26.375 inches long. FN measured barrels by the metric system (71cm and 67cm), hence the odd length in inches on the second barrel. The longer barrel set has a Modified choke over an Improved cylinder choke. It has one brass bead. The second barrel set is a skeet choke over skeet choke and has a front brass bead and what appears to be an ivory mid-bead. Both barrel sets have a vent rib. The receiver is nicely engraved with a floral pattern. The bluing is in near mint condition. There is some slight finish loss under the safety which is common to any shotgun using a tang-mounted safety. The stock and forearms have a nice high gloss finish which is also in excellent condition. The whole set fits in a well-built leather case. This shotgun would be a very nice addition to any Browning enthusiast’s collection.

The Browning Superposed was designed by John Moses Browning who invented some of the most famous firearms in history including the M1911, the M1917/1919 .30-cal MG, the M2 .50-cal HMG, the M1887/1897/1912 shotguns, the M1886/1892/1894 lever action rifles, the Hi Power pistol, the M1918 BAR, and the Auto-5 shotgun. Mr. Browning was such a prolific inventor that many of his designs were used as the basis for guns produced in other countries all over the world. For example, most of the Japanese Army Air Force’s WW2 fighter planes used machine guns and cannons that were essentially a scaled up M2. Some of Mr. Browning’s lesser known firearms include the FN Models 1900, 1903, 1910, and 1922, the Colt M1900/1902/1905/1907/1909/1910 (all forerunners of the M1911), the Remington Model 8 rifle, the Colt M1903 Hammerless, the Browning Baby and Colt M1908 .25 pocket pistols, and of all things, even the US Army’s M1A2 37mm anti-aircraft gun. The Superposed Lightning shown here is in extremely good condition. It was built in Belgium at the FN factory in 1967 for Abercrombie and Fitch – a famous outdoor retailer that started business back in 1892. It is likely that this Lightning has seen very little use if any. It comes with two sets of barrels, one 28 inches in length and the other 26.375 inches long. FN measured barrels by the metric system (71cm and 67cm), hence the odd length in inches on the second barrel. The longer barrel set has a Modified choke over an Improved cylinder choke. It has one brass bead. The second barrel set is a skeet choke over skeet choke and has a front brass bead and what appears to be an ivory mid-bead. Both barrel sets have a vent rib. The receiver is nicely engraved with a floral pattern. The bluing is in near mint condition. There is some slight finish loss under the safety which is common to any shotgun using a tang-mounted safety. The stock and forearms have a nice high gloss finish which is also in excellent condition. The whole set fits in a well-built leather case. This shotgun would be a very nice addition to any Browning enthusiast’s collection.
