Description:
Up for your consideration is a handsome 1961 Belgium production with matching serial numbers and 32” barrels (full/mod fixed chokes: verified 0.681” - Full & 0.700” – Mod.). As you can see, the overall condition is excellent with no detectable blemishes on the barrels or on the notable, 5/8 inch wide “Broadway” ventilated rib from which this gun derives its name. This prominent VR boasts two ivory beads for eye-pleasing target tracking. The only noticeable blemishes are on the high-gloss wood where a few light handling marks are evident, which do little to detract from the high-condition appearance of this attractive Belgium.
The most noteworthy aspect of this Lightening beyond the Broadway VR is the eye-catching tiger-striped wood stock. At some point during the history of this firearm, case hardening of the receiver was applied. The stock butt has been fitted with a Pachmayr Decelerator pad, presumably an aftermarket enhancement (i.e., not factory) that appears to have been professionally mounted in order to maintain the appeal of this fine firearm. The LOP is 14.5 inches and weighs 7.75 lbs.
The Browning case is probably not period-correct, but is nonetheless a nice addition and in good condition, with an exterior covered in canvas, in-tact brass corners, and combination operated locks are fully functional.
The left side of the barrel reads: Browning Arms Company St. Louis MO. & Montreal P.Q.
The right side of the barrel reads: Made in Belgium
There are no gauge or chamber markings on the barrel but a 2 ¾” chamber was verified by a qualified gunsmith.
