The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs. Produced in plain-jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when traditional production stopped. Browning did not introduce the Superposed in the .410 bore gun until 1960. From 1960 to 1966 there were a total of only 1277 .410 bore guns with the precious long tang round knob pistol grip stock produced in all grades, so you can see why they are so hard to find. LESS THAN 400 WERE PRODUCED AS FIELD GUNS WITH THE FIELD STYLE FOREND, WITH OVER 2/3 OF PRODUCTION THE LESS DESIRABLE SKEET GUN WITH BEAVERTAIL FOREND. Many of the .410 bore guns you do find are salt wood guns produced after 1966, guns with cut stocks and recoil pads, and guns with lots of wear. The gun we have here, sn847 J4 made in 1964, is very special, as it is in NEAR NEW CONDITION WITH 99% FACTORY BLUE AND ONLY A FEW LIGHT FIELD MARKS IN THE WOOD. The barrels are tight on face and hinge…the gun has barely been shot. The wood has virtually all the original factory finish. The barrels are the most desirable 28” length choked SKEET 1 AND SKEET 2, the ultimate quail, grouse, woodcock, and preserve pheasant gun. It is just at home on the skeet range and clays course as it is in the field. Weighing just 6lbs. 10oz. and balanced just right it is a delight in hand. The round knob Prince of Wales style grip with the long tang trigger guard is by far the most sought after version of this Superposed, as after 1966 they changed to the short tang and had the infamous saltwood problems that do not exist in this gun. The screws are perfect, and the gold-plated trigger retains most all the gold finish. This is a premium, hard to find gun unaltered since it left the factory. They don't get any better, and these little .410 bore Superposed guns keep going up in value and make a great investment as you enjoy its use. Whether in the field for upland game or on the clays course breaking targets, this Belgium Browning is a very good investment. The Superposed was a true hand-fitted, hand engraved, hand checkered, finely made European shotgun that has earned its place in history as the most successful over/under in the 20th century. Don't miss out on this one as it is priced to sell. Thanks for looking!
