This rare Browning FN Auto-5 Light Twelve Two Millionth Commemorative, serial number 2000000-24, is one of only 2,500 produced between 1971 and 1974 to celebrate the legacy of John Browning’s iconic Auto-5 shotgun. Fully produced in Belgium by FN Herstal for Browning Arms Company, it stands apart from later commemoratives as a true Belgian-made factory hand-engraved piece with gold inlay, select walnut, and premium finishing details rarely seen outside of the highest-grade Superposed and exhibition guns.
The right side of the receiver bears the inscription “BROWNING/2,000,000-24” inlaid in gold, while the left side features a gold-inlaid portrait of John Browning along with his signature. The engraving is crisp and elegant, accentuating the Auto-5’s classic profile. The receiver and barrel retain 99% of their original deep blue finish, a testament to the gun’s careful preservation over the last half-century. The 27.5" barrel is fitted with a factory hand-filed, matted vent rib—an artisan detail typically reserved for Midas Grade and exhibition guns—topped with a white front bead. Choked Modified with .025" of constriction, the bore is clear and bright, the action cycles smoothly, and the trigger is crisp and precise.
The stock set is crafted from factory select-grade walnut, finely hand checkered, and finished with a semi-pistol grip, straight comb, black FN Browning Automatic buttplate, and finger grooves running the length of the forend. Dimensions measure a 14.5" length of pull, 1.625" drop at comb, and 2.625" drop at heel, with an overall weight of 7 pounds 10.9 ounces, making it well-balanced for handling while maintaining the Auto-5’s signature recoil operation feel.
Condition is excellent overall, with only the most minor handling marks. It appears factory fired only, with original factory grease still present on the internals and in protected areas. This is a premium example of a historically significant commemorative that has remained undervalued in the collector community for far too long. It combines full Belgian craftsmanship, factory hand engraving with gold inlay, select walnut, and special rib work—features that firmly place it among the finest commemorative Auto-5s ever produced. This is a near-mint, investment-grade shotgun worthy of any advanced Browning or fine firearms collection.
