**SOLD** Belgian Browning Auto 5 A5 Sweet Sixteen Semi Auto Shotgun Chambered in 16 Gauge **Mfg 1953 - Sweet Sixteen**
Description:
Here we have an honest and true Belgian made Browning Sweet Sixteen Auto 5 16 gauge shotgun made in 1953. The Browning Automatic 5, most often Auto-5 or simply A-5, is a recoil-operated semi-automatic shotgun designed by John Browning. It was the first successful semi-automatic shotgun design, and remained in production until 1998. The name of the shotgun designates that it is an autoloader with a capacity of five rounds, four in the magazine and one in the chamber. Remington Arms and Savage Arms sold variants called the Remington Model 11 and Savage Model 720 that were nearly identical but lacked the magazine cutoff found on the Browning. The Browning Auto-5 was the first mass-produced semi-automatic shotgun. Designed by John Browning in 1898 and patented in 1900, it was produced continually for almost 100 years by several makers with production ending in 1998. It features a distinctive high rear end, earning it the nickname "Humpback". This particular example is the highly desirable Sweet Sixteen version of the Auto 5. The plain barrel has a plain barrel with crosshatching to reduce glare and a very nice bore. One raised bead sight at the muzzle which is choked fixed full. This gun has some high edge wear and a few spots where the finish is worn thin. There is one fine crack in the right side of the forend just in front of the receiver which is not at all unusual for Auto 5 shotguns. The Browning padded butt pad is in very good condition. This fine Sweet Sixteen would make an excellent addition to an existing collection or a fine field gun.
