Special Order Cased Belgian Browning Custom Shop Case Hardened B-125 Pair Master Engraved by C. Baerten and JP. Bailey
Description: SOLD For sale today is a very seldom seen set from the Browning Custom Shop in Belgium! This is a factory set with consecutive serial numbers as well as a gold "1" and "2" on the top lever of the receiver and on the rib of each barrel set! Both guns feature a hand engraved case hardened receiver, accompanied by a nicely figured oil finished walnut stock and forearm. The engraving is quite intricate and features very fine scrolls throughout as well as a Germanic Cross border on the barrel flanges. Both guns feature 30" vent "Broadway" ribbed barrels that are threaded for invector chokes, 1 barrel set has chokes installed, the other does not and does not appear to have ever been fired. Both stocks are neutral cast with 14.25" LOP to the end of the factory pads. Checkering is fairly fine at more than 20 lines per inch. This set is also retailer marked in gold on the bottom of the receivers by Griffin & Howe of New York, where I assume the guns were ordered either by a customer or by Griffin and Howe themselves for a showpiece in their gallery. It is also accompanied by a custom fit leather case made by G&H which just exhumes quality! Brass hardware, sturdy construction with leather belt loops for extra security, and a very attractive blue felt interior with retailer plaque placed on the inside of the lid. I have contacted them to see if they have any records of this gun in their archives. When this set was manufactured in 1997 the cost would have been quite substantial for both the guns as well as the case, in my estimation it was likely in the $18,000 to $20,000 range for the whole package. UPDATE: Upon speaking with the VP of Griffin and Howe, these shotguns were a special variation distributed by them in the 1990s. He said they do not have exact records but he recalls that very few were made and sold in the "Broadway" edition. Estimated cost at the time was $5850-6500 per gun and $1500-2000 for the case. Condition for both guns is truly like new in case, there are a few very faint marks in the wood and metal but they are extremely minor and unobtrusive. I would consider both to be in the 98-99% range without a doubt. An extremely nice and unique set for your investment and collection consideration!
