Charles Boswell 12 Bore Boxlock PIGEON GUN with 30” Nicely Figured Damascus Barrels
Description:
*** PRICE REDUCED *** Handsome and great handling Charles Boswell best quality Anson & Deeley boxlock non-ejector Pigeon Gun with 30” nicely figured Damascus barrels. Highly figured European walnut pistol grip stock and forearm. Full coverage engraving. Double triggers, sideclips, checkered quarter panels, extractors, and auto safety. Recently professionally refurbished in solid mechanical condition. Cased in a current production canvas and leather case with makers label. Charles Boswell number 12059 was made circa 1890 and weighs 7lb 1oz.
The 30” Damascus barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding low pressure 2-1/2” cartridges are readily available in the US from Clays Ammos, Game Bore, and RST Shells. The barrels have black powder proofs but with good barrel wall thickness can be shot with sensible low pressure ammunition. The bores are shiny and bright and the exterior is nicely browned with some finish touch-up. The barrels are topped by a raised solid rib which is inscribed “Charles Boswell Maker 126 Strand London W.C.” The right barrel is bored 0.734 with a constriction of 0.022 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness 0.031. The left barrel is also bored 0.734 and has a constriction of 0.037 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029.
The stock and forearm appear to be somewhat recent replacements made of highly figured and sturdy European walnut that is strong through the wrist. The checkering is crisp and the stock has checkered quarter panels, well defined drop points, and a checkered butt. The finish is in great condition with a few handling marks from normal usage. Stock dimensions are14-1/2” by 1-1/2” by 1-7/8”. Cast off slightly for the righthanded shooter.
Very nice handling English double from a storied maker. Recently refurbished and a great value at the price.
