Superb Lindner Daly single barrel trap 12 gauge- 32 inch excellent cond.
Description: Sold! Please see my other listings. One significant fact set Heinrich August Lindner (correct spelling is Lindner, not Linder) apart from the other superb gunmakers in Suhl, Prussia at the turn of the 20th century. As his father before him, he insisted on exclusively creating hand made superlative shotguns; a maker of "best guns only" as a famous English firm once advertised. And his guns truly are "best". German gentlemen preferred to field combination guns, drillings, Vierlings and the like for stalking and to harvest a variety of game so most of Lindner's output was snapped up by importers to the US and other continental markets looking for finest quality and craftsmanship outside of England. Schoverling, Daly and Gales (using Charles Daly's name on sporting guns) started to import Lindner shotguns for their New York location in the early 1880s and continued successfully until WW1, when Lindner was forced to cease operations for good around 1916 due to the war and aftermath in the then German empire. Daly had worked with Lindner to create high grade offerings to appeal to the American market and look more like English guns than German guns at the time. Also the perfected Anson and Deely type action was used to simplify the number of parts required and focus to refinement of appearance and handling. But not all Prussian made Daly guns are Lindners, as Daly dealt with other Prussian makers as well, but Lindners are the finest and most desirable. This circa 1911-1914 trap gun for the American market has been properly completely restored to its lovely original appearance in a bygone era. It is very tight and handles very well at the trap. Extremely tight & even patterns and fast lock time was a hallmark of these desirable guns which were used by the most discerning shooters of the age, and still today. Only between 200-400 total Prussian SD&Gs Charles Daly SBTs were ever made from 1911- 1916 and then from 1924-1928 (only by Sauer in this era) and the fraction that are Lindner made, were obviously in the 1911-1916 period. Alas, SD&G fell on hard times in 1928 and the Charles Daly brand name was sold along with the company's stocks. New owners continued to sell guns using the Charles Daly brand name, using other German and later Japanese manufacturers but it was never the same. They marketed a cheaper "Empire grade" German made SBT until around 1934, but it was not near the quality of the 1911-1914 Prussian Lindners so beware! The Lindner hallmark, crossed pistols and initials HAL, are properly stamped on the barrel with the correct Prusssian proof marks of the era. "PRUSSIA" is stamped on inside of action sides. All serial numbers match. "Krupp fluid steel" hand engraved on barrel. 85% coverage fine hand engraved scroll engraving on action and furniture. Highly figured European walnut. Krupp 32 inch barrel with hand laid vent rib, sharp engraving and sharp very fine checkering, 95% case colors, 98% blue, great dimensions. Light handling marks only. To build a gun of this quality and hand workmanship today would cost well over 20K. Priced to sell to a new admirer of fine guns.
