Charles Daly 20 Gauge – REGENT DALY W/GOLD INLAYS, 98%, 1922, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Charles Daly, Year 1922, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 15oz, Chokes F/F, LOP 14 3/16", DAH 2 9/16", DAC 1 3/8" Serial Number: 10078 Ask any shooter/collector of fine vintage shotguns about Charles Daly labeled guns and you will soon know that they were of the highest quality. Daly guns were made by several gunmaking firms. The gun we show here, a Daly Regent Quality initially proofed in 1922 (with a second proof date of March of 1949) was built by Herman Weihrauch of Zella/Mehlis, Germany, as noted by this makers stamp on the standing breech. Just look at the sculpted frame and breech balls, the detail in the engraving, the scalloped action, the perfect wood to metal fit, gorgeous French walnut stock, superb checkering and an elegant forend with ivory Schnabel tip. Even the safety button is a work of art! THE WOOD, BARRELS, ACTION, AND TRIGGER GUARD REMAIN IN FACTORY ORIGINAL, UNTOUCHED CONDITION, the action still showing 70% factory case color, embellished with full coverage deeply cut vine and floral scroll engraving with shaded background, 5 raised gold game birds and dog inlays with incredible detail, raised gold initials “RAC” on the top lever, and a 5-point crown of heavy raised gold inlaid into the bottom of the action (indicating a gun made for an Aristocrat), perfect screws, and elegant sculpting. The 28” Excelsior Witten Steel barrels retain 98% of their original blue, have no dents or dings, bores are mirror shiny, lettering and rib matting sharp as new, dolls head rib extension perfectly mated to the action, choked F/F (see specs below this paragraph) with 2 ¾” chambers, ribs are tight, and the barrels fit tight on the hinge pin and breech face. The wood is finely figured French walnut, retaining most of its original hand-rubbed oil finish and finely cut checkering showing no wear from use. The wood-to-metal fit is superb and there are no cracks or repairs. The mechanics are in perfect working order, with strong well-timed ejectors, crisp triggers, and tight lock up. This amazing gun has 7 locking points including a Greener cross bolt, dolls head rib extension, barrel lug through the bottom of the action, double underlug bites, and sideclips. All these features keep the barrels tightly mated to the action during the firing sequence. At 5lbs. 15oz. and balanced nicely perfectly on the hinge pin, this gun is lightning fast and would make for an easy carry all day afield. As most small-bore enthusiasts are aware, finely made vintage side x side shotguns are a rare find and always bring a serious premium compared to their 12 bore stablemates. The early Charles Daly guns are an extremely good value…one of the finest made guns money can buy, with highly polished internal parts all perfectly hand-fit for generations of use. This is a fine upland gun for the sportsman that wants to chase birds and clays with a little gun and a little romance and a lot of class. Thanks for looking.
