Description: Engraved COGSWELL & HARRISON Avant Tout BOXLOCK SXS C&R HAMMERLESS Shotgun Double Barrel C&R 12 Gauge Shotgun! Here we present a Cogswell & Harrison Avant Tout (meaning “Above all Others”) Boxlock Double Barrel Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun, made circa 1897 to 1914 in London, England. Cogswell & Harrison was established in May 1770 and is London’s oldest surviving gun maker. Over the years, Cogswell & Harrison has manufactured a quite diverse range of sporting shotguns and rifles during its long history. In 2008 the company was purchased by the Brennan family, the proprietors of Ardee Sports Company. The overall condition is nearing fine. The action is strong all around. The bores are mirror bright. The floral engravings on the frame are sharp and well defined. This example is missing the front sight. Here is a prodigious piece of history to collect and display!
