COLT 1878 SxS Exposed Hammer Shotgun 12ga (1880)

Description:
For sale we are offering a beautiful Colt Model 1898 SxS Exposed Hammer Shotgun chambered in 12 gauge with 29 7/8” long Damascus barrels. ALL NUMBERS MATCHING.

This Colt model 1898 is in Very Good condition for its age. Damascus barrels are very good with a beautiful brown patina; some pitting. One small “dimple”. Muzzle shows surface wear; Bores are both good, clean with some light overall pitting. The barrels are fit with a front brass bead sight. Barrels are free of any major flaws.

Sideplates, breach, breech lock and hammers are very good with a nice brown patina. Hammer springs are exceptional and the hammers both work extremely well. Breech locks tightly and opens with ease. Sideplates are marked with “Colt Pt. F. A. Mfg. Co.” in period script on both sides. Floorplate shows consistent patina.

Furniture on this antique is good. Pistol grip stock is very good showing signs of wear; some light dings, dents. There are NO CRACKS on this stock. It remains very solid with nice, albeit worn checkering on rounded pistol grip. Stock appears to retain original finish and meets nicely with metal parts. The splinter fore-end shows more moderate wear. There are chips to edges, most notably on the muzzle side closest to ebony insert (Please see all photographs). Wood meets metal pieces nicely; Metal pieces show a brown patina consistent with the rest of the gun.
