This Extra Lusso example is elevated to an entirely different level by its signed bulino engraving by master engraver Fabbrizioli, executed with exceptional depth, realism, and composition across the coin-finished receiver. The left side features a beautifully detailed pair of English setters on point, intently locked on scent, leading into a secondary scene of three woodcock rising from cover, capturing the tension and movement of the hunt. The underside of the action showcases two dramatic vignettes: a fox leaping upward toward a flushing pheasant, frozen mid-action, and a hawk descending on a grouse, conveying speed and predatory precision. The right side continues the narrative with a serene marsh scene of three ducks in flight, paired with a covey of five quail moving through open field, each bird rendered with lifelike texture and motion. These scenes are seamlessly framed and unified by fine, flowing scroll engraving that extends across the action, top tang, and top lever, demonstrating Fabbrizioli’s mastery.
Condition is excellent, with the shotgun retaining nearly all of its original finishes and showing only the faintest signs of handling. The bore is clear, the action operates with Cosmi’s signature smoothness, and the trigger is crisp.
