Hoffman Arms 20 gauge, Cleveland, 1922, interesting provenance, restored, layaway
Description: Hoffman Arms 20 gauge. Made in Cleveland circa 1922 and wearing gun number 208, serial 96153 (3x matching) was originally purchased by William A. Comstock (Governor of Michigan, 1933-1935) and has since remained in his family. Features include 26-inch barrels (shortened, open chokes, single bead, hand-stippled rib, 2.5-inch chambers, ejectors), automatic safety and mechanical triggers with checkered faces. Wrap checkering is 26 lines-per-inch with interupted Mullered borders and appointments include drop points, a steel grip cap and a partially-checkered butt. ENGRAVING: Well executed but unattributed, the action wears intricate bordered scroll to approximately 70 percent coverage. The pattern continues along the lever/guard/tangs, blends over the chambers and reappears on the grip cap. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 5.8 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.0 inches, drops are 1.5 and 2.6 inches, and cast off is approximately .50-inch. CONDITION: Refinished. Bores are bright with spots of trace roughness. Barrels are on face. Ejectors operate properly although one exhibits a greater sense of purpose. Finishes are approximately 85 percent overall. PROVENANCE: The Comstock family will provide a personalized letter attesting to ownership history. The price is firm and layaway is available. $4,750 plus shipping.
