Your FFL must accept shipment from private party with photo ID to get free shipping. As a private seller I do not collect sales tax. From my personal collection, an early John Dickson & Son Round Action, Self Opening, Trigger Plate Action 12 bore light weight game gun. It is Serial number 5691 (gun #1144 under the 1887 patent) dating to circa 1905-06. Dickson was Scotland’s finest gun maker and designer of the Scottish Round Action, trigger plate action game gun, many of which came with Damascus barrels. This beautiful self opening specimen was rebuilt with new chopper lump steel barrels in 1981 by today’s top Scottish Best gun maker, David McKay Brown who’s name and address are engraved on the rib. David McKay Brown, now nearing retirement, will go down in history as one of the finest gun makers the world has ever known. The new barrels have LP/81 dated London proof marks for 2-1/2” chambers, along with the other standard proof marks. The barrels remain almost new condition, with chambers opened to 2-3/4” for the American market. The rest of the gun rates excellent original blue with expected wear for its age, and case colors well faded. The full coverage original delicate rose bouquet & scroll engraving remains quite crisp. Excellent checkering and walnut finish. Weight is exactly 6 pounds, 8 ounces. This was number 1 of a pair and is so marked with gold inlaid number 1 on the opening lever, barrel rib, and forend iron. It also has a gold oval with shallow, easily removed initials JC in the well figured walnut stock, along with an English brown leather covered recoil pad. The stock measures 14-3/4” from front trigger to center of the pad. Drop at comb is about 1-3/8” and 2-3/8” at the heel, and cast off about 3/8”. The gun has well timed auto ejectors, double triggers, and automatic safety, with the word SAFE inlaid in gold. The 27” chopper lump barrels have chambers opened to 2-3/4”, are choked skeet & improved cylinder, and have a concave tapered rib with rib extended for third fastener. The rib is engraved with the barrel makers name and address at that time: David McKay Brown, 32 Hamilton Road, Bothwell. Rib extension is scroll engraved along with the gold inlaid number 1. John Dickson & Son is engraved on both sides of the action. The gun comes in what is believed its original fitted leather VC case with Dickson label, some accessories including a pair of snap caps, square oil bottle, and a vintage wood two piece cleaning rod. The case condition is excellent, leather straps good. This has been one of my favorite light weight grouse and Texas wild quail guns, and has been effective on preserve pheasant as well. I have lowered my price to $16,900 for it, well under today’s cost of new chopper lump barrels alone from any top tier Scottish or English gun maker. And I’ll consider reasonable offers. I’m getting old and my guns need a new home! Watch my listings for more fine double guns as I sell off my long time collection.
