John Dickson & Son Round Action Ejector PAIR with Original Damascus Barrels – Fabulous Condition
Description: *** Just in from the Dickson Workshop in Scotland *** This fabulous pair of Dickson Round Actions has been owned and well cared for by just two families over the last 125 years! Sourcing good pairs of Round Actions is very challenging. Finding a pair with Damascus barrels in good, serviceable condition is even more difficult. The serial numbers of the two guns are 4846 and 4990. They are a matched pair. That is to say that the No. 1 gun was delivered in August 1896 and was sent back to Dicksons a couple of years after it was made to have a matching No. 2 gun manufactured. The second gun was delivered in July 1898. This is clearly shown in the Dickson records. One other interesting thing of note is that the second set of beavertail forearms of a somewhat unusual design shown in the last photo were found in a gunshop located near the estate and reunited with the pair. They do, of course, come with the pair. The 28” nitro proof Damascus barrels are highly figured and so are the French walnut stocks. The guns are exquisitely balanced and handle like a dream. Presented in their oak & leather case they make a handsome pair. SPECIAL NOTE: The purchasers of Dickson firearms consigned by the maker to MacNab Fine Firearms receive a full manufacturers provenance letter with details of the original owners. *** The 28-inch nitro Damascus barrels have immaculate bores, exteriors straight and true, measure very well and show no signs of damage or repair. Chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. The Damascus is very highly figured on both guns. The barrels are topped by raised solid concave gamestyle ribs. The ribs are inscribed “John Dickson & Son 63 Princes Street Edinburgh”. Barrel Set No.1 Gun: Right barrel is bored 0.732 with a constriction of 0.06 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. The left barrel is also bored 0.732 and has a constriction of 0.017 for 3/8 choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.024. Barrel Set for No. 2 Gun: Right barrel is bored 0.734 and has a constriction of 0.010 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022. The left barrel is also bored 0.734 and has a constriction of 0.023 for 5/8 choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023. *** The pair are stocked in very highly figured French walnut with crisp checkering and a rich, warm hand rubbed oil finish. Stock Dimensions for No. 1 Gun: 14-9/16” by 1-5/8” by 2-9/16”. Cast off. Stock Dimensions for No. 2 Gun: 14-5/8” by 1-9/16” by 2-3/8”. Cast off. *** If you have ever shot red grouse over a Scottish moor then you already know why you need this pair. For the discerning sportsman who appreciates rare quality, great handling, and the romance associated with a Dickson Round Action. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
