A true matched pair of bespoke Italian game guns, these Ferlib Prince side-by-sides represent the artistry and craftsmanship of Libero Ferraglio of Gardone Val Trompia at its finest. Built in 1995, the pair combines elegant round-body sidelever actions with exceptional balance, exquisite hand engraving, and the rarity that only a bespoke matched pair can offer. Whether destined for driven game, a premier collection, or both, these guns exemplify the finest traditions of Italian gunmaking.
Both shotguns are chambered in 20 gauge with 2.75-inch chambers and fitted with 27.75-inch barrels wearing concave tapering ribs with gold front beads. Gun No. 117 is choked Improved Cylinder (.010") and Modified (.020"), weighs 5 pounds 9 ounces, and measures 14.25 inches in length of pull. Gun No. 118 is choked Improved Cylinder (.008") and Modified (.023"), weighs 5 pounds 15 ounces, and shares the same 14.25-inch length of pull. Both guns are perfectly suited for classic upland and driven game shooting.
Built on elegant round-body boxlock actions with sidelevers, double triggers with articulated front triggers, ejectors, and non-automatic safeties, both guns remain in very good overall condition. The bores are clear, the actions lock up tightly, the triggers are crisp, the ejectors are strong and in time, and both guns are mechanically excellent.
The highlight of the pair is the extraordinary engraving executed by Master Engraver Talenti of the renowned Creative Art engraving house. Gun No. 117 is signed "Creative Art" beside the trigger guard, while No. 118 bears Talenti's personal signature. Both receivers feature matching game scenes and portrait engraving. The left side of each action depicts an English Setter, while the right side portrays a Shorthaired Pointer. The underside of No. 117 features a beautifully executed scene of a lekking capercaillie on the ground, while No. 118 depicts a capercaillie perched in a forest tree. The remaining surfaces are covered in elegant fine scroll engraving, while the serial numbers are inlaid in gold on the extended bottom tangs and framed by matching scrollwork.
The blued steel barrels are complemented by beautifully figured deluxe walnut stocks with traditional straight grips and matching splinter forends. Fine diamond-point checkering remains sharp throughout, and both stocks terminate in thin orange recoil pads with black spacers. Blank gold initial ovals are inlaid near the toes of both stocks.
The pair is housed in a fitted double leather case complete with the maker's trade label, providing both elegant presentation and secure transport.
