Fabrique d'armes Unies de Liege ~ NONE ~ 12 Gauge
Description: For sale is a Belgian side-by-side shotgun with exposed hammers. With its antiquated appearance, this shotgun is a unique addition to any collection! The shotgun can be dated to somewhere between 1898-1922, per the proof marks on the receiver and barrels. The shotgun features a single-piece extractor and double triggers. The shotgun is chambered in 12 gauge and can accept only 2 ½" shells. Though not standard in the early 1900s, the barrels are marked as "Tested for Smokeless Powder." The barrels are 29 ½" long and joined by a textured wide rib with single brass bead. The barrels are not made of damascus steel and use steel from the Belgian Acier Cockerill steel plant, as portrayed by the eagle markings on both barrels. The barrels' bore markings would indicate that they are choked and are closest to a modern full choke in the left barrel and skeet in the right. The receiver of this shotgun originally had a color case-hardened finish, but has been reduced to the bare steel in much of the surfaces and has been discolored down to a brown color in other areas. The sideplates, trigger guard, tang, and lever feature decorative hand-engravings, with images of dogs and rabbits on the sideplates. The stock and forend are made of walnut and have hand-checkering. The finish appears to have been redone at some point but is still fading. The forend is a splinter style and the stock has a pistol grip and cheek rest for right-handed shooters. Overall, this shotgun is very likely not safe to shoot in its current condition. The stock does have visible cracking around the grip at the tang and near the receiver which will likely break, even with limited use. Mechanically, the shotgun could be usable, but the stock would surely need replaced. The 2 ½" chambers would require specialty ammunition or light handloads, even black powder loads. The barrel external surfaces have speckled surface rust and light pitting and the inside of the right barrel does have notable pitting just beyond the middle of the barrel. This shotgun would make a great addition to a collection for the historic design, could make a great accent for decoration, or would be a great project to restore. This shotgun does not include a box or case. 12 Gauge Chambers: 2 1/2 Metal Condition: Fair Wood Condition: Needs repaired grip/stock Bore Condition: Fair Barrels: 29 1/2 Triggers: Double Stock Dimensions: 13 1/4" LOP Fore End: "Checkered walnut, splinter-style Butt Pad: Metal Weight: 6 lbs 14 oz Sights: Wide textured rib with single brass bead Chokes: "Fixed full choke (left barrel), fixed skeet choke (right barrel) Item Location: Kearney, NE Price: Was $399.99 Now $289.77 Contact Seller |
