A.H. Fox A GRADE 20 Ga ULTRALIGHT 5LBS. 6OZ. 28” ORIGINAL, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Fox, 1922, 20 Gauge, 5lbs. 6oz., Chokes M/F, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 201873 Many reading this ad regularly scour the internet for Fox shotguns. One thing is certain; the availability of graded 20ga. Fox shotguns has dwindled to nearly zero. Shooter/collectors have recognized that Fox 20ga. guns are the most well balanced, lightest weight, best handling guns of all the vintage American doubles. They made 2400 A Grade 20ga. Fox guns in total (half w/ejectors), with likely less than 2000 remaining in circulation, and few left in factory original condition. In the 30 years I have collected, shot, bought, and sold Fox guns, I have never found one that weighs 5lbs. 6oz. on an electronic postal scale. THIS IS THE LIGHTEST FOX I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY HANDS AND IT BALANCES TO PERFECTION RIGHT ON THE HINGE PIN. This Philly Fox, sn201873 built in 1922, remains in untouched, factory original condition, and combined with its weight and balance, is an impossible gun to find for sale, now or in the future. Most all the Fox graded 20ga. guns you see have been altered, some even having replaced wood or parts. Most of the others have cut stocks, cut barrels, bad butt pads, or poor restorations to name a few of the maladies. Being the honest, solid gun she is, I decided to leave her “as found” and leave it up to the next owner to restore the wood or other parts of the gun. The 28” #4 weight barrels have mirror shiny bores, 97% factory blue with clear, sharp lettering and rib matting, ribs tight, and barrels tight on hinge pin and breech face. PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 20 GA. SHELLS. BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN. This is a $440 service in our shop. The mechanics are excellent, with the top lever well right of center, screws clocked with clean slots, auto safety works, triggers are crisp. Buy this gun with confidence, a VFI CERTIFIED GUN with a 90-day mechanical warranty! We stripped the action to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed all parts to shiny metal, inspected all parts for integrity and function, lubricated and reassembled, a $325 service in our shop. The stock is in solid shape with the expected field marks, no cracks, superb wood-to-metal fit, great stock dimensions (see specifications below), excellent factory checkering, retaining the original factory finish, terminating in the original factory butt plate. As mentioned, we strongly considered restoring the wood but decided to offer the gun for sale as she sits for those that want the gun to be all original. We can restore the wood within 8 weeks of purchase for an added $550 if you choose. What a superb upland gun with its M/F chokes and modern chambers, able to be carried afield all day over hill and dale with less fatigue. This is a rare opportunity to treat yourself to an amazing Fox A Grade 20ga. Yes, prices have gone up, but they will never come down again as the demand far exceeds the supply, especially with original, unique guns like this one. See specifications below. Don’t hesitate…just remember the question “where are you going to find another one like this” and you will realize the time to act is now. Thanks for looking!
