Over the last decade Ansley H. Fox’s double guns have become the most desirable vintage American double guns on the planet. And there is good reason, as Michael McIntosh points out in his book A.H. FOX “THE FINEST GUN IN THE WORLD”; the Fox guns are supremely balanced, extremely reliable and simply built guns with classic good looks. There are a LOT of 12ga. A Grade Fox guns available to own so how do you choose which one to buy? Most have had their stocks cut, have been poorly restored, heavily used, have buggered up screws from hack gunsmithing attempts, or have characteristics that just don’t fit your needs. It is rare when you find a Fox A Grade that has been preserved in its original configuration and HAS GORGEOUS FACTORY EUROPEAN WALNUT far nicer than most A Grade Fox guns you will ever see. Whoever ordered this gun must have known somebody at the factory! For investment and enjoyment of use, finding Fox guns remaining in the “as shipped” configuration is what makes the most sense. This is what we have here in this Fox A Grade 12ga., sn33418 built in Philadelphia PA in 1929. This special-order Fox came from the factory as a HEAVY WEIGHT GUN WEIGHING 7LBS. 14OZ, LIKELY A WATERFOWLER, with MODERN STOCK DIMENSIONS AND A 14 ¼” LOP A FACTORY BUTTPLATE. This Fox has high condition, shipped with 30” number 1 weight barrels (the heaviest contour made) with mirror shiny bores, 97% factory blue, choked M/F. The barrels retain the original 2 5/8” chambers. We can lengthen the chambers to 2 ¾” and extend the forcing cone tapers to 1 ½” long upon request. These heavy barrels are made for heavy loads, so doing the chamber and cones would reduce recoil to you and the wood, as well as provide better patterns with fewer deformed pellets. Can be done within 5 days of purchase here at our gunsmithing shop. The action retains 90% factory case color, engraving still sharp, with perfect screws, a trigger guard retaining 90% of the factory charcoal blue, mechanics excellent, barrels tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face, all in superb working order. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, meaning we stripped the action and forend iron to the smallest part, cleaned all in the Ultrasonic cleaner, scrubbed each part and inspected all for function and integrity, properly lubricated and reassembled. VFI CERTIFIED guns have a 90-day mechanical warranty. When we received this gun it had dirty, oil-soaked wood with a factory finish that was scratched up and flaking. It looked rough, but we could see some nice figure hidden below, so we restored the wood to a superb hand-rubbed oil finish. What a surprise we had when this wood popped out of the cloudy, dirty condition we found her in. THIS IS THE KIND OF GUN THAT THE WATERFOWLERS, TURKEY HUNTERS, WILD PHEASANT HUNTERS, AND SPORTING CLAYS FANS SEEK OUT FOR THEIR SPORT. IF YOU ARE A TALL MAN, THIS IS YOUR GUN AS WE CAN ADD A PAD AND GET THE LOP TO 15 1/4”! With all the vintage sporting clays shoots popping up across the country, this is a great Fox to show off at the club. You deserve a fine A.H. Fox for this year’s hunting season, so don’t hesitate. This fine Fox A Grade has it all with factory original metal finishes, great stock dimensions, perfect mechanics, and notable good looks! It will be a long time before another Fox like this one shows itself for sale. This is a gun you can use and enjoy, and it will continue to gain value. Thanks for looking!
