Fox A Grade 12 Gauge - FACTORY ORIGINAL, #1 WEIGHT FOR THE HEAVIEST LOADS, VFI CERTIFIED
Description: General Specs: Fox, Year 1906/7 , 12 Gauge, 7lb 7oz, Chokes .010/ .014 IC/LM, LOP 14 3/16", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 1574 It is well known that the Fox gun mechanism is utterly reliable with the locking mechanism simple and efficient, the barrels and action made of the finest steel of its time, the wood finely fitted to the action, checkering well cut, and the balance of the gun superb. With so many of them out there, how do you know which one to buy? Because many of the A.H. Fox guns were used hard and not well maintained, condition is important. IT IS EASY TO BUY THE WRONG GUN WITH COSTLY ISSUES. At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed, and on most guns, we strip the actions to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic clean and scrub all parts to shiny metal, inspect all parts for integrity and function, make any replacements or repairs necessary, lubricate and reassemble. This is a $275 service included with the gun. VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty providing confidence you are buying a fine shotgun that will provide years of service in the field. Other sellers DO NOT provide this service. Other important factors when buying a shotgun is the condition of the metal, screws, wood, and bores. We provide the most comprehensive photography and specifications in the marketplace to guide you in making an informed choice. Just remember, nowhere is it more apparent than in the gun world…you get what you pay for! If you want an upland gun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and can safely shoot modern, available field loads. This Fox A grade SN 1574 is an all factory original gun. Its butt stock has an elegant round knob with perfectly executed fine checkering which compliments the nicely figured European fiddleback walnut. The stock has a new VFI fitted pad. The gun has good modern shooting dimensions, the rib matting and barrels stampings are sharp, clear and untouched. The gun is tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever just right of center, shows perfect screws and mechanics, and has excellent wood to metal fit and excellent bores. Everything is in great condition for a first year four digit Fox gun. With it being a very early production shotgun Mr. Fox would have personally inspected and approved this gun before leaving his factory, we have improved upon his famous attention to detail and quality by passing this A grade through our VFI Certification process. In addition VFI has lengthened the chambers to 2 ¾” and extended the forcing cone tapers to 1 ½” a $360 value. Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for safe shooting with softer recoil and better patterns, which benefit the shooter and preserve the integrity of these fine older doubleguns. The bore diameter, chokes, and wall thicknesses are all factory and untouched. The 30" barrels, choked IC/M, are Krupp steel with a #1 profile with a re-enforced forend lug allowing this gun to shoot the heaviest factory loads over and over again. The gun has all of its original finishes, the barrels have no pitting but shows light handling wear. The receiver has hints of case color under its pleasing patina and bears the early style border pattern, the engraving still clear and sharp, the trigger guard likewise matches the action. Just a righteous gun and what a great gun to take a field or to the club with your buddies to break some clays this season. If you cherish original, honest and collectable guns, this one is for you. Inspected and passed by A.H. Fox himself and now Certified by VFI, what a great combo! Thanks for looking, enjoy.
