Fox A Grade 12 Gauge –ULTRALIGHT, 6LBS. 11OZ., 28” #4WT, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Fox, Year 1926, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 11oz, Chokes M/F, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 7/8", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 30907 As Michael McIntosh points out in his book A.H. FOX “THE FINEST GUN IN THE WORLD”; the Fox guns are supremely balanced, extremely reliable, and simply built guns with classic good looks. There are always a few 12ga. A Grade Fox guns available to own, so how do you choose which one to buy? Most have had their stocks cut, been poorly restored, heavily used, have buggered up screws, bad shooting dimensions, or have characteristics that just don’t fit your needs. What makes a "good one"? For those that enjoy upland hunting the preference is something light, quick to the shoulder, and easy to carry all day over hill and dale. Here we have that gun, serial #30907 made in 1926 in Philadelphia, weighing in at 6lbs. 11oz., balanced perfectly 3/16” ahead of the hinge pin, making it an ULTRALIGHT AMERICAN 12GA. Many 16 and 20-gauge guns from other makers weigh as much as this 12ga. and it has 28” no. 4 weight barrels choked M/F, the perfect choice for pheasants and other upland game. We lengthened the chambers to 2 ¾” and extended the forcing cones to 1 ½” tapers for better patterns and noticeably less felt recoil to the shooter and the wood on the gun, a $360 service. Best of all it has excellent screws, perfect wood to metal fit, 30% factory case color, 98% factory blue barrels with mirror bores, 40% factory charcoal blue on the trigger guard, and nicely figured wood with an oil finish. THE BUTTSTOCK ON THIS GUN HAS BEEN REPLACED PROFESSIONALLY WITH AN ENGLISH STYLE STOCK. The workmanship is impeccable and done right. Fewer than 10% of American side x side shotguns were made with straight-hand stocks, so if you like this feature, somebody set it up for you. English stocks also contribute to lightweight characteristics we all love in 12ga. guns. You could look for years and not find another Fox 12ga. gun that weighs 6lbs. 11oz. with 28” barrels. The gun is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, WITH 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, having been stripped to the smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned, each part scrubbed and inspected for function and integrity, lubricated, and assembled, good for another decade or so before needing attention, a $275 service. The gun has perfect mechanics, with barrels tight on the hinge pin and standing breech like a new gun, top lever right of center, and nicely checkered wood with good shooting dimensions (see specs below). This is a gorgeous gun that has that “FOX FEEL” and is an affordable A.H. Fox double gun. It might be a “month of Sundays” before you see another A Grade Fox this light, with a straight stock, and M/F #4 weight barrels. Fox guns have been continuously gaining value as you enjoy their use, and that makes this a very good investment gun. Thanks for looking!
