Fox AE Grade 20 Gauge – 28” #4 WEIGHT, 5LBS. 14OZ., FACTORY FINISHES, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Fox, Year 1931, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 14oz, Chokes SK/LM, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 9/16" Serial Number: 203225 Graded A.H. Fox shotguns in 16 or 20 gauge have all but disappeared from the marketplace. Not that you don’t see a few for sale, but that the ones offered have tons of drop and are not shootable in today’s world, or have been altered with cut stocks, cut barrels, pads added, poorly restored finishes, parts replaced, pitted metal…things that just make them less desirable. The availability of top quality, graded 20ga. Fox shotguns has dwindled to nearly zero. Shooter/collectors have recognized the Fox 16ga. and 20ga. guns are the most well-balanced, best handling guns of all the vintage American doubles, and that they have the simplest, most reliable actions as well. They only made about 2450 Fox A Grades in 20ga., and only 1200 or so with ejectors, so there were never many to start with. There are likely less than 700 or so Fox AE 20’s that remain intact left on the planet. This fine A.H. Fox AE 20ga., sn203225 built in 1931, has had no restoration work done to it and REMAINS WITH ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES ON METAL AND WOOD, ALL PARTS ORIGINAL TO THE GUN, AND IS IN EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION THROUGHOUT. The factory records (included in the photos and with the sale of the gun) show the gun left the factory with the most desirable 28” number 4 weight barrels that still retain factory bore diameters of .618 each barrel and about 85% of the factory blue. The action retains about 65% factory case color, perfect screws, and it is now a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, as we stripped the action and forend iron to its smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned all, scrubbed each part and inspected all for function and integrity, lubricated and reassembled all, a $325 service in our shop. She is ready for another 90 years of service for the next owner. Look at the wood on this AE Grade and you will see much nicer figure than usually found on an A Grade Fox. Vintage gun enthusiasts love nice wood and there is a definite added value for having such. The wood has no cracks and the factory original checkering is in excellent condition. THIS IS A NICE FOX! We are always torn when we get a gun like this with thinning barrel blue. Many shooter/collectors want to have the gun wholly original and not messed with in the way of finishes, so we decided to offer the gun as she was found. Others want the gun to look fresher and prefer the barrels to have a nice, deep rust-blue finish. For the latter group please realize we will reblue the barrels for you within 4 weeks of purchase (or after the hunting season in the same short time frame) for $475. We do exceptional work and will put you at the front of the line. The gun weighs a delightful 5lbs. 14oz. and balances dead on the hinge pine…the gun is amazing in hand. Choked SK/LM, it is the perfect gun for your upland pursuits and your vintage sporting clays events. There is plenty of case color to make the gun interesting and attractive. The stock dimensions will work for most shooters (see specs below), and the gun has all the right “check marks” going for it. It won’t last long, so don’t hesitate in getting your new upland gun just in time for the bird season. Thanks for looking!
