The Fox SP Grade was introduced in 1932.  The depression was on, and the Savage owned Fox factory needed new business.  Just a year before, Winchester introduced the Model 21, a popular shotgun then and now.  Fox saw the opportunity to make some cost saving changes in the appearance of the Fox with the new SP Grade.  With its smooth-sided black frame, more rounded stock and action, the gun appeared more an English boxlock and similar to the new Model 21. Internally it was exactly like every other Fox produced.  By 1934, Savage/Fox introduced the SPE Skeet and Upland Game gun.  A VERY RARE GUN, WITH ONLY 34 TOTAL PRODUCTION IN 20 GAUGE, EVERY FOX COLLECTOR SHOULD HAVE ONE OF THESE IN THEIR COLLECTION.  This fine Fox SPE Skeet and Upland gun, sn203866 made in 1938, is a fully documented special-order SPE Skeet and Upland and remains in excellent condition.  Special ordered with a Fox/Kautzky single selective trigger, a Jotsam Air Cushion recoil pad, and double ivory beads, this is a fully optioned gun.  If you search the internet, you will see a few of these guns that have sold over the years, and none of them have the nicely figured European walnut that the factory installed on this gun.  All the details of this gun are clearly documented on the factory order card that is shown in the photos of this gun.  I found the 1937 Jotsam recoil pad ad in the Double Gun Journal, exactly as specified on the order card and the exact pad still on the gun.   The gun handles like most every Fox, balanced on the hinge pin and weighing 6lbs. 1oz.   Look at this Fox!  All the hard edges are gone, with the action rounded top and bottom, the breech balls filed to the shape of the barrels like an XE grade, the head of the stock rounded with no “side panels”...a true round bodied Fox.  ELEGANT INDEED!  So, here is your opportunity to own 1 of less than 34, with Fox/Kautzky single selective trigger, ejectors, gorgeous stock, beavertail forend, 99% condition, and remaining unaltered in its specifications since leaving the factory.  If you are an experienced shooter/collector of Fox guns, or new to the passion, you likely are aware that many of these guns have had the chokes altered, stocks altered or replaced, barrels shortened…the list goes on.  To find a Fox SPE Skeet and Upland Game 20ga. gun with all the options and still matching the factory order card makes this gun likely to be one of only a handful in existence that features all these most important details.   The rarity and desirability of the SPE Skeet and Upland Game gun makes this a grand investment vessel, sure to appreciate in value as you enjoy its use.  The opportunity to own a Fox gun like this one comes before you only once, so please don’t hesitate to call and buy this fantastic Fox gun.  Not only is it rare in the way of collectability, but it is also an awesome upland gun, choked right, balanced right, and with rare configuration, and weighing just over 6lbs.!  This gun has it all.  Thanks for looking.
