This beautifully crafted Auguste Francotte 12 gauge Over/Under has deep engraving, nicely figured wood, Greener-type cross bolt, and auto ejectors. It would be a fine addition to the gun cabinet of shooters or collectors of O/U shotguns, as it is a great example of the origins of what has become the most popular type of doublegun.
The 28” barrels have 2-3/4” chambers and are choked Improved Modified (.025) in the lower barrel and Full (.030) in the upper barrel. The wall thickness (right/left) for the lower barrel at 9” from muzzle is .035/.033 and at the middle of the barrel is .038/.036; the upper barrel is .035/.035 and .038/.038, respectively. Bores 9” from the breech are .729/.729. At some point in the gun’s history, the European-style sling mounts were removed from the lower barrel and stock.
The stock and forearm are fine European walnut. The drop at the comb is 1-1/2” and at the heel 2-1/4”. Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the wood is 14-1/4”. The butt of the stock is checkered. The gun locks up tight and on face; the top lever returns to the right of center. All serial numbers, 53774, match. To better preserve this fine gun for many decades of future use, the wood is refreshed and the barrels are refinished.
The inspection period is 7 days from receipt. The gun has been fired many times by the seller using standard factory 2-3/4” target loads. However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing. The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost. The price does not include original shipping cost, which is paid by the buyer.
