Francotte 18 12 Gauge Boxlock Non-Ejector Imported by VL & D
Description:
Classic Francotte 18 boxlock, number 32xxx, was imported by VL & D around 1900. A really handsome gun with all the Francotte bells and whistles. It has carved and sculpted fences, side clips, a cross bolt, 30” Siemens Martin steel barrels chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells, double triggers, auto safety, extractors, and nicely figured European walnut. Weighs 6lb 14oz. *** The 30” steel barrels are factory chambered for 2-3/4” cartridges which is somewhat rare for the gun’s date of manufacture and they have trouble-free extractors. They are topped by a raised solid crosshatched and tapered rib which has a silver front bead. The bluing on the barrels has a nice patina but does have some scratches from normal usage. The bores are shiny. The right barrel is bored 0.732 and has been opened up to Cylinder choke. The left barrel is bored 0.730 and has a constriction of 0.013 for Improved Cylinder choke. A perfect choking for sporting clays and upland game. The barrels are proofed for black powder but can be safely shot with low pressure nitro loads like those available from RST *** The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured European walnut. The checkering shows some wear and there are a few dents and scratches that be easily and inexpensively dealt with by a gunsmith. Stock dimensions are 14-3/4” including the recoil pad by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthanded shooter. *** Most Americans are not aware of the quality of Francottes. As such they represent a great value for the astute gunner. Beautiful engraving, highly figured European walnut and great handling all at a super price.
