Francotte 20 Gauge Belgian-Made Boxlock Ejector Made for A. M. Mainwaring, Paris
Description: Great handling little 20 gauge Belgian-made double ideal for upland gunning. Light rose and scroll engraving and nicely figured English walnut straight grip stock and splinter forearm with sharp checkering. Good wood to metal fit. Hidden third fastener, double triggers, and automatic ejectors. This little wand weighs 5lb 13oz. and the serial number is 5267. Mainwaring was a well-known French sporting goods shop located in Paris that sourced its guns primarily from Belgian makers as in this case from Francotte. *** The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured English walnut. It has been professionally refinished and the checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” over a 5/8" black recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 1-7/8” making it ideal for rising birds such as quail, grouse and woodcock. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** The 27-1/2” nitro steel barrels are topped by a raised solid crosshatched rib and chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. The right barrel is inscribed “A.M. Mainwaring” and the left barrel is inscribed “44 Rue Des Petits Champs, Paris”. The barrel flats show Belgian proofs. The right barrel is bored 0.628 with a constriction of 0.013 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The left barrel is bored 0.625 and has a constriction of 0.028 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. *** This gun is in solid mechanical condition, tight on face, timed ejectors and has features that mark it as quality piece such as the hidden third fastener. The wood is in excellent condition with sharp checkering and the engraving shows little wear. However, the barrels show mild pitting as if they were left in a damp case. The pitting is not deep and the lowest minimum wall thickness measurement is 0.032. The bluing on the barrels has a number of spots where there may have been surface rust that was cleaned up. This gun will deliver effective patterns. This is a great double made by a high quality Belgian gunmaker that will be a joy to take afield for upland gunning. *** I am an FFL and will need a signed copy of your dealer’s FFL. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing. SOLD |
