Francotte 45E Eagle Grade 12 Gauge with Extensive Engraving – 17 Game birds Engraved on Frame and Trigger Guard
Description: *** SOLD *** There are Eagle Grade Francottes and there are very special Eagle Grade Francottes and this is one of the latter. Highly figured French walnut stock and elaborate engraving with seventeen gamebirds engraved over tight scroll on the sides and bottom of the frame as well as the trigger guard. And that does not include the Gold Eagle inlaid on the bottom of the frame. The fences are beautifully carved in a bold acanthus pattern and the gun retains most of its original case coloring. This Eagle Grade like most others imported in this era was specially made as a "featherweight game gun" which explains why it handles so well. A VL&D import; this gun has lettered and the letter along with all the supporting materials are included with the gun.. The records, as retained by Griffin & Howe, indicate it came into VL&D inventory in 1906. It was sold in 1910 to a wealthy NY senator. *** This Francotte, serial number 623xx, was made circa 1905 and has double triggers and auto ejectors. It has side clips and a hidden crossbolt third fastener. Gun weight is 6lb 5oz. *** The 28” 12 gauge barrels are made of Siemens-Martin Special English Steel, chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges and are choked Improved Cylinder and Modified. Perfect for game or clays. It has a raised solid hand crosshatched tapered rib *** The highly figured French walnut stock has a swept back pistol grip and splinter forearm. The checkering is crisp and there is a blank gold initial plate on the bottom of the buttstock. Stock dimensions are 14-5/16” over a thin original plastic buttplate by 1-1/4” by 2-1/4”. Slightly cast-off for the right handed shooter. The bluing on the barrels is in greatshape but there are a few minor handling marks on the stock including a small repaired crack to the rear of the left lock. Great gun for upland game or clays that you will be proud to own. Isn't it time to reward yourself? *** I am an FFL and will need a signed copy of your dealer’s FFL license. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing. SOLD |
