Description: Condition
Great high deffinition pics reveal the very good condition of both the furniture and metal of this 1904 beauty.
Overview
Manufactured in early 1904, the W.W. Greener side-by-side (SxS) with a serial number around 50627 is historically a 12-bore Facile Princeps boxlock model. It is celebrated for its classic English craftsmanship, exceptional balance, and robust action.
Review and Technical Overview
Action: Invented by W.W. Greener in 1880, the Facile Princeps (meaning "easily superior") action utilizes a rounded boxlock design. It is remarkably strong for its weight and famously incorporates the Greener cross-bolt system.
Craftsmanship: Even as a factory "boxlock," these shotguns were made to a high standard, frequently featuring fine scroll engraving (often by Horrocks) and elegant walnut straight-hand stocks.
Handling: These guns are known for being very light in the hands. This makes them excellent and fast-pointing upland bird guns, though this lower weight can make recoil more noticeable with heavy modern loads.
Valuation: Collector value varies significantly depending on grade, finish, and overall condition. Extractors vs. ejectors, original Damascus vs. fluid steel barrels, and retained checkering heavily influence this.
This is a used item. While we do not test-fire our used firearms, we perform an inspection and function check to ensure that they are fully functional to the best of our ability.
