AUSTRIAN GUILD 16 GAUGE HAMMER SHOTGUN - 1913 - LIGHTWEIGHT, NITRO PROOFED
Description: Austrian Guild 16 Gauge Hammer Shotgun – 1913 – Lightweight, Nitro Proofed Offered is a high-quality Austrian Guild hammer shotgun dating to 1913, built to a standard well above typical trade guns of the era. This is a light, lively 16 gauge, weighing just 5 lbs 10 3/8 oz, making it an excellent upland gun or a desirable addition to a serious hammer gun collection. The shotgun features rebounding hammers and back-action locks with mirror-polished internals and flamed blued pins, indicative of careful, high-end guild workmanship. Lockwork is tight with strong mainsprings, and the gun remains tight on face, with the top lever right of center. Krupp fluid steel barrels, nitro proofed, measure 29 1/4" and have mirror-bright bores that rate a true 10. Chambers measure 2 5/8" (correct 2 1/2" 16 gauge shells are readily available). Chokes are Full and Full. The exterior of the barrels shows a few areas of light corrosion, rating approximately 8+, with no loose ribs. The action exhibits excellent original case colors. The gun is fitted with sideclips, a double underbite lockup, and a Doll’s Head rib extension, all features associated with higher-grade Continental guns of the period. Stocked in well-figured walnut with sharp checkering. Wood shows honest field marks consistent with age and use but no structural issues. Fitted with an ebony checkered grip cap and a horn buttplate, the latter showing typical age-related “worm holes.” The trigger guard and forend lever show corrosion while the action and sideplates have spotty light corrosion, noted for full transparency.
