Liegeoise D’Arms 12-Gauge Game Gun, Excellent Original Condition, Fine Damascus Barrels with Gold Inlay
Description: This stunning light-weight original-condition 12-gauge game gun was made in Liege, Belgium by the firm of Leigeoise D’ Arms prior to 1890. Rarely does one find a 130-year-old antique gun that would meet the NRA criteria to judge a modern gun to be in “excellent” condition [“near new condition, used but little, no noticeable marring of wood or metal, bluing near perfect (except at muzzle or sharp edges)”]. This hammer gun is constructed with quality features not present in any of the premiere American brands at the time, which include the Purdy double under-bolt, a Greener cross-bolt, gold inlay on the barrels, and an engraved Damascus-steel top rib with extension. Sidelocks are rebounding and finely machined. They retain 100% original case-color and the rest of the frame 90%. The engraving, which is primarily English scroll, is crisp with about 80% coverage. The stock is made of figured fiddle-back English walnut. The 22-point checkering on the wrist and forend is sharp. The drop-at-the-comb is 1-7/8” and at-the-heel 2-5/8”. The length of pull is 13-3/4” and the cast is neutral. The 29-1/2” barrels have 2-5/8” chambers. The right barrel is choked improved cylinder (.009) and the left modified (.018). The barrels retain 100% of the original Damascus pattern and have no pitting or dents. The bore diameters measured at 9” from the breech are both .718”. The bores are bright and without flaws. The wall thicknesses of the right barrel measured at 9” from the muzzle are (top/side/back) .038/.040/.042, and at the middle of the barrel are .042/.040/.043. The wall thicknesses of the left barrel are .038/.040/.042 and .042/.040/.043, respectively. The gun weighs 6 pounds 9 ounces. The right trigger pulls at 6 pounds of pressure and the left at 4 pounds. The gun locks up tightly and all serial numbers, 27206, match. The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer. The inspection period is 7-days from receipt. This shotgun has been fired on the range using low pressure 2-1/2” shells produced for Damascus-barreled shotguns by RST Corporation. However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, and especially one a hundred and thirty years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her gunsmith before firing, and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed.
