True Island locks like on this Purdey have wood 100% surrounding the lock while a standard back action lock will have some (sometimes very little) of the metal touching some of the metal of the action.

This Purdey has been sleeved with very solid barrels and nitro proofed.
Sadly the engraving has suffered on this gun from hard use and poor storage so we have a very low price on this gun.
The good news is the wood is very sound and the action and barrels tight on the face so this gun is ready for the field.
The thumb lever may look odd to those that have not tried it but let me tell you I have been using this lever type for years on my personal Boss 16 hammer gun and I love it.
It takes no time at all to get use to and appreciate more than a top lever.
