SIACE Hammer Sidelock sxs 20 Ga., 28
Description: SOLD ** S.I.A.C.E. Hammer Sidelock SXS 20 Ga., 28” Bl. -- Near Mint with case Description: Fabbrica d’Armi SIACE of Gardone, Val Trompia, Italy, a best maker – this is a hammer sidelock gun in a side-by-side double 20 gauge, choked Modified (left) and Improved Cylinder (right, perfect for driven birds. The maker has brought back the proven design with elegance and beauty, combining the latest technology with the best-gunmaker hand craftsmanship. These “new” hammer guns are greatly appreciated by those hunters who like “the old days” and do not want to give up reliability and perfect ballistic performance. Don't you think it would be fun to make a hammer gun your go-to uplands bird gun? Fun to use and fun to shoot... and this one is rare, having a top tang conventional safety -- try to find another one without double the price of this one. With 2 ¾’ chambers, the 28” steel extractor barrels are fitted with a tapered level hand-filed matted rib with a single front round brass bead. Featuring classic double triggers and a manual safety, the action locks up using the tried and true Purdey double underlugs with a reinforced front action lock. The top lever or action lever locks up right of center. The breech face does not show bushed strikers since this is a hammer gun with external access to replaceable firing pins. With deep blue demiblock barrels, the action is finished with the maker’s case-hardening colors which took years to perfect and then is topped off with masterful border engraving with some artful scrolls. The top lever is pierced with a sculptured feature, something usually only found on best guns. All screws are engraved. The joining, shaping and finishing of this gun were done entirely by hand with the utmost attention to detail. Even the hidden screw for the forearm iron is engraved. Inscriptions:The left side of the 7-pin sidelock is engraved “Siace de Gelmini” in script and the right sidelock is engraved “Gardone V.T.” in script. The left barrel is also inscribed “Siace di Gelmini Made in Italy” and on the right barrel is the inscription of the importer, “New England Custom Arms Co.” On the barrel flat is SIACE and 20 for gauge and 70 for chamber length (2 ¾”) and the serial number. The same inscriptions are on the water table. The serial number is also inscribed on the forearm iron when hidden under the barrels. Stock: The stock and forearm are made from Turkish walnut with rich color and dark grain figure as you might find only on a more expensive fully engraved gun. It is patterned in the classic shape with splinter forearm and straight hand English grip with long trigger guard tang perfectly inletted with a spear point. Checkering patterns are classic English hand-executed with full point patterns and drop points and a fancy detail on the toe line of the grip (that are not cut short like you see on Merkels), wrapping the forearm with a diamond pattern and then finished with a fully hand-checkered butt – all executed flawlessly. The wood finish is SIACE’s French oil polish that takes many steps of hand-rubbing and drying time in between coats. When they were children they started to show a great interest in guns and hunting following an old family tradition. Back then a very lively network of subcontractors worked for the gun industry in Gardone Val Trompia and the brothers had a chance to train in local gun workshops. Giuseppe decided to specialize in wood work and become a master stocker, while Ivano specialized in metal work. In 1990 after many years of work and experience they took over S.I.A.C.E. a 40 year old company. Being avid hunters with a great passion for side-by-side shotguns, Giuseppe and Ivano have devoted their entire careers to the production of fine hammer and hammerless side-by-side shotguns in all gauges. Almost all their guns are entirely custom made and feature elegant stocks and fore-ends and fine hand engravings executed by the best Master engravers from Brescia. Thanks to the Gelmini brothers’ efforts, dedication and desire to implement new technologies without giving up craftsmanship and traditions, S.I.A.C.E. kept growing and in 2002 Ivano's two sons, Ferdinando and Daniele, joined the workshop; while Giuseppe's daughters, Veronica and Benedetta, began running the business. The enthusiasm, energy and creativity, combined with new technology and the experience of their elders, has led to the creation of new models like the hammer and hammerless double rifle side-by-side, and the brand new over and under shotguns. The new models have been the young Gelminis' challange. The results have been high quality products, strong and reliable but still light in weight, precise and beautiful, and nothing short of a credit to the expectation -- of being guns built from Gardone meeting the world’s highest standards. George Bush owns three of their guns.
