T. Gardner 16 Gauge British Game Gun
Description: British 16-gauge hammerguns are scarce. Affordable ones in high condition, such as this circa 1875 Birmingham gun, even more so. Major Birmingham manufacturers, such as W. & C. Scott, made guns for other firms, including retail stores. This appears to be the case here. Weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces and with 28” barrels, it was intended for use in the field. The European walnut stock is visually striking, the checking crisp, and dimensions well suited to the modern shooter: LOP 14-1/4”, DAC 1-3/4, DAH 2-3/4. It is cast slightly off for the right-handed shooter. The locks are finely machined and produce a smooth pull. The gun has rebounding hammers. The browned fine-Damascus steel barrels are beautiful, as refinished, and are absent any pits, dents, or other flaws. The bores are bright and have no pitting. The engraving is extensive, deep and sharp. Some case color remains on the receiver in protected areas. The nicely carved grip cap and the buttplate are horn. Chokes are cylinder in the left barrel and light modified (.012) in the right. The chambers are 2-1/2”. Minimum wall thicknesses are .040 for the right barrel and .050 for the left. The right bore 9” from the breech is .666 and the left .656. The gun locks up tight and on-face; all serial numbers, 19663, match. The listed price of the gun does not include shipping costs paid by buyer. The inspection period is 7 days from receipt. This shotgun has been fired using low pressure shells produced for Damascus-barreled shotguns by RST Corporation. However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, and especially one over 140 years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her gunsmith before firing and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed. The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.
