Handsome Holland & Holland Royal 12 bore with elaborate engraving and highly figured French walnut. Leather cased with straps and the maker’s trade and other labels. Sleek 30” barrels with auto ejectors, auto safety, and gold lined cocking indicators. Manufactured in 1899 this well-balanced double weighs 6lb 9oz. *** The 30” nitro steel barrels were London proofed for 2-1/2” chambers and 1-1/8 oz loads. They are topped by a raised concave gamestyle rib. The top of the right barrel is inscribed “Holland & Holland” and the top of the left is inscribed “98 New Bond Street London”. The bluing is a deep rich blue but does show some case wear near the breech and muzzle ends of the barrels. Bores are shiny. The right barrel is bores 0.735 with a constriction of 0.013 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. The left barrel is also bored 0.735 and has a constriction of 0.013 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.026. *** The highly figured French walnut stock and splinter forearm have recently been professionally refinished and the checkering refreshed. The drop points are well defined. There are a few very minor handling marks and a small professionally repaired crack near the left side of the bottom of the action. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” including a new 5/8” brown leather recoil pad by 1-1/2” by 2-1/8”. Cast off approximately 3/16” for the righthand shot. There is some minor pitting on the breech face which has been professionally addressed. *** This handsome Holland Royal is tight on face, balances on the hinge pin and a joy to handle. Nicely cased.
