Fine Vintage Ithaca 37-S Skeet 20 Ga. Pump Shotgun W/Polychoke
Description: Fine Vintage Ithaca 37-S Skeet 20 Ga. Pump Shotgun W/Polychoke Offered here and just acquired by us is a most desirable mid 20th century pump shotgun made by Ithaca. This is a vintage Ithaca Model 37-S (Skeet) 20 Gauge pump shotgun. It has a 26" barrel. Vent rib and comes with a period Polychoke attachment. It retains most of its finish on metal. Nice standard engraving of waterfowl scene. The Ithaca Model 37 is a classic American pump-action shotgun with one of the longest continuous production runs of any pump shotgun in history (first made in 1937 ). It was designed to be rugged, reliable, and ambidextrous thanks to its bottom-eject/loader port, which kept spent shells and dirt from the sides of the receiver. It was produced in multiple gauges, this one in DESIRABLE 20 gauge and also with , and in many configurations — this a DESIRABLE skeet, with vent rib. Vent ribs and accessories like Polychoke chokes became popular in the mid-20th century, rising in use in the 1950s and into the 1960s as sport shooting and upland bird hunting styles evolved. In addition, before modern interchangeable threaded choke tubes became standard (1970s–80s), several makers produced adjustable choke devices that screwed on or mounted at the muzzle and allowed the shooter to change shot constriction patterns without swapping barrels. This Polychoke is an adjustable choke attachment and the most popular. It rotates to present different choke constrictions (e.g., improved cylinder, modified, full) at the muzzle and allowed one barrel to serve multiple purposes — from skeet to upland bird hunting — by varying shot spread. It has a nice standard hunting/engraving scene —Most finish retained and excellent functional condition — The Model 37’s reputation for reliability and simplicity made it a favorite among hunters and shooters for decades. Its bottom-eject design also made it forgiving to dirt and adverse conditions, contributing to its “tried and true” status. It has some use marks on wood but in excellent functional condition. A "tried and true" reliable shotgun utilizing an innovative accessory which benefited the hunting enthusiast. L560 Thanks for your bid.
